Description
Chiesa Di San Pietro Corniglia Cinque Terre
The church of San Pietro is a religious building located in via Fieschi in the hamlet of Corniglia in Vernazza , in the Riviera spezzina - Cinque Terre in the province of La Spezia . The church is the seat of the homonymous parish of the diocese of La Spezia-Sarzana-Brugnato .
Located in the upper part of the town, today's building was built in 1334 with a new structure that was incorporated into the northern flank of a pre-existing place of worship, certainly dating back to the eleventh century. The construction was carried out by the masters Comancini, belonging to a guild of builders of Lake Como and extends for 13 meters in width, 20 in length and 13 meters in height. The two predominant styles are the Ligurian Gothic , externally, as desired by the Fieschi family , feudal in the village, and internally baroque. The two windows are the work of the Bergamo master Trento Longaretti .
The façade of local stone is characterized by a large rose window in white Carrara marble - dated to 1351 - and a frame saw tooth.
The interior of the building has a basilica plan with three naves , supported by a barrel vault in the Baroque style. The paintings that can be admired inside are the work of the Corniglia painter Prospero Luxardi.
Among the decorative elements a baptismal font - from the twelfth century - and a polyptych on the altar at the end of the right aisle.
